met on June 29th, 2024, in partnership to discuss potential STEM outreach projects sponsored the the Lone Star Flight Museum (LSFM).
Ann Hobing, the Senior Director of Education and Outreach for the LSFM, hosted our meeting with a tour of the museum and an open discussion session to discuss a forward plan. Mitchell Winters, the Youth Programs Coordinator assisted in the tour and insights into the youth programs.
The objective to supplement existing LSFM STEM outreach programs with the inclusion of the radio communications as an aeronautical discipline was the area of common interest.
Example activites included ham radio volunteers to assist in an LSFM sponsored Radio Merit badge for Scouts; a DIY Maker-space themed morse code activity, guest speakerships, and a potential annual commemoration of airplanes “on-the-air” event.
We’re looking forward to begin a new collaborative effort that may shape younger minds in the community and foster interest in the technical disciplines.
