3PP (3 Park POTA) for JSCARC- a 2nd try

There’s not too much to say here except we’re going to attempt our 2nd 3PP (3 Park POTA) roving adventure on Saturday November 2, 2024.

The linked Power Point presentation provides the detailed information of our route plan and times.  (Note CW operators must use WARC bands after 1000CT.)

If you’ve never tried a POTA activation, just give it a try.  Operating is fun, but getting an excuse to enjoy the outdoors is the real appeal of doing these.

Yes, you’ll be missing primetime College Football, but you can monitor the ESPN scores from your iPhone and watch the taped rebroadcasts afterwards, right?

Bring your family and friends and help make this 3PP a fun event, even if you can only attend one of the three parks.

  1. Had a great time on Saturday, I really enjoyed it. 10 meters was for the most part hot, with a few doldrums in between. As usual, I had a couple of issues. One being that I forgot my battery. Fortunately not a big problem since I only live five minutes away from the park. Another was I could not get my antenna to tune. Took me a while but I finally figured out that I had the tuner settings in my rig set for a linear amplifier instead of for internal tuner.

    Below are my results.

    US-3013 Galveston:
18 total contacts. 3 DX stations were from Germany.

    US-6567 Justin Hurst:
42 total contacts. 11 DX stations from 5 different European countries. This includes a confirmed P2P from OT4V/P in Belgium. He was in park BE-0089. Turns out he is a friend of Ben, OS4K, who joined us in the POTA activations.

For my activations, I was running 50 watts CW into a 10M hamstick.

    Thanks, Joe – K5KUA
