What is Jamboree-on-the-Air?
Jamboree-on-the-Air, or JOTA, is the largest Scouting event in the world. JOTA uses amateur radio to link scouts and hams around the nation and world.
When is it?
JOTA is held annually on the third full weekend in October. For 2017, October 21st and 22nd.
JSCARC will partcipate in the 2017 JOTA event from the W5RRR shack. We are hoping to host several scout groups. If you’d like to help with the event, please contact Tanner Jones (W9TWJ).
Operating Schedule (revised)
October 21st: 1pm-6pm
October 22nd: 1pm-6pm
The W5RRR station is located at the Johnson Space Center’s Gilruth Center.
2101 E NASA Pkwy
Houston, TX 77058
There will be signs posted. Here’s an overview on where things are located. Park in the area labeled in the picture… and as they say: “‘X’ marks the spot.” Go through the tunnel with the “Gilruth Fields” sign above it. The W5RRR station will be on the right side (placard card will say “Radio Club”).
Scout Group Registration
Register your scout group. We will have 10 slots available (5 each day). Each operating slot will be 1 hour. We are targeting to have all registrations completed by 10/19. Please plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled operating time as we’d like to have time to meet every scout and go through a small tutorial with your group.
We are looking forward to hosting your group and having a lot of fun!
